Purpose of the role - how it adds value

To design & develop software solutions for CD based products, primarily using Visual C# and associated technologies.


Main responsibilities of the job

Technical:

  • Liaise with the Project Manager and other members of staff to deliver software solutions that meet with business requirements, this will include: requirements gathering, analysis, code design, database design using Microsoft SQL Server, and coding in C#.
  • Work closely with the test team to ensure any identified bugs are rectified in a timely fashion.
  • Provide technical assistance to the customer support team.
  • Actively participate in software design and development review meetings.
  • Work with other team members and other product groups to achieve zero defect software.
  • Responsible for ensuring design and development methodologies are followed as agreed by the Project Manager.
  • Work with Project Manager to ensure any specified changes are made.
  • Constructively challenges current practice and offers creative suggestions for change.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of software product design and development, including keeping up to date with new development languages, design methodologies and patterns.
  • Take responsibility and show initiative in areas of own professional development and learning.
  • Be prepared to act as a mentor to other employees within the organisation and impart relevant knowledge.
  • Help to establish a quality driven working philosophy consistent with the aims and objectives of the organisation.
  • Ensure software solutions are delivered on time and with minimal defects.
  • Promote and establish a healthy and safe working environment, ensuring that health and safety policies are complied with.
  • Identify potential hazards in the work environment that have the potential to create a risk to other employees or visitors to the organisation.

Experience:

  • At least 2 years experience in C# programming language using .NET with a demonstrable willingness to learn and develop in C# in the future
  • Ability to understand refactoring and the principles of good software design
  • Experience of best practice software development patterns and frameworks
  • A good understanding of unit testing, functional testing and the need for automated developer tests
  • Experience of Test Driven Development (TDD) and agile development methods or a willingness to learn
  • Experience of software development productivity tools such as Team Foundation Server, JUnit, NUnit or a willingness to learn
  • Knowledge of XML and related technologies

Technical Knowledge

  • C# and SQL Server.
  • Hands on commercial experience of design and development of Windows applications
