As the daily flood of insolvency stats, fraudulent folk and battered stock prices continues to surge through TS’s inbox, we couldn’t help but to be struck by that most rarified of emails – a good news story.
A pair of Exeter accountants has won a prestigious Pop Idol competition… and no, before you envisage the next Alexandra Burke or Leona Lewis strutting their stuff on stage, it was all for a good cause and all in the name of charity.
The UK-wide auction in aid of Comic Relief meant husband and wife duo, Jeremy and Sarah Sidaway from Sidaway Limited, outbid the pack for a chance to be immortalised as Freddie Mercury and Annie Lennox.
The couple originally bid £150 for the opportunity before adding a further £100 to secure the win. The prize was being offered by Exmouth-based accountancy software suppliers Digita.
Managing director Jerry Rihll said “the idea of accountants as rock stars always seems to amuse people.” Couldn’t have said it better ourselves…
