Reynolds is a three partner firm with an office in Exeter. Six staff use Digita Personal, Business and Trust Tax to produce over 500 returns every year. Peter Simpson, the senior tax consultant, gives his thoughts on Digita Personal, Business and Trust Tax.
Peter’s view
I joined Reynolds about three years ago, and had used Pertax in my previous practice. Reynolds had implemented Digita Personal, Business and Trust Tax about a year or so before I joined them. I was extremely impressed both with the software, having used it on joining the firm and with the company behind it, as I got to know them better.
There are many features in the software all of which are relevant, useful and useable. From a review angle, I like being able to have the return on screen and just double click a box and it takes me straight to the data entry screen. In particular the business tax (capital allowances calculations and so on) avoids pitfalls and technically is excellent.
Implementation of electronic lodgement (now called FBI) has been very useful. It can be advantageous to know very quickly that a tax return has been processed and that the calculations are correct.
The integrated Pension Planner (picking up relevant earnings and pension contributions from the tax return data entry) producing a summary of unused pension reliefs is just one example of a frequently used report from the system.
For administration, the Tracker reports are essential and the Tax Return Progress Report gives an overall status report on the progress of returns.
We generally have a Digita trainer in for induction of new staff, but a half-day is usually all that is needed, and indeed, we could do it ourselves. However, staff tend to be more receptive to outside trainers. New users do not take long to find their way around as the program really is very easy to use.
With regard to the support, I actually find this quite hard to comment on - it is so rarely necessary to use it! If everyone has the same experience it must be quite a nice job to work as part of the support team at Digita!
Links to accounts software
The links to our accounts software work extremely well. I cannot see the need to get all software from one supplier and definitely feel ‘the best of breed’ approach our firm has taken is the right route.
Conclusion
We would recommend Digita Personal, Business and Trust Tax to others if asked. Indeed we have done so on a number of occasions and the subsequent purchasers have been as delighted as we have been with the product.
